Organization Profile

Alabama White Cane Foundation

White Cane Day will be nationally observed on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. In observance of this day, several agencies, including Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind and The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, will be hosting a White Cane Safety Day on Saturday, October 19th from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. White Cane Safety Day is a time to spotlight the accomplishments and abilities of our blind citizens. This is a time when we want to bring awareness to the importance of the white cane and reflect on the blind’s abilities to live a full independent life. This day will begin with an opening ceremony at Disability Rights and Resources followed by a walk to Linn Park. We want the day at the park to be a fun day for families while learning through innovative games about blindness. There will also be vendors, food, entertainment and the best part FREE VISION SCREENINGS!!!!!!!
