Owens House-Childrens Advocacy Center

THE MISSION OF OWENS HOUSE IS TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN OF SHELBY COUNTY. Founded in 1993, Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center provides free and confidential support to child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members. Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center works with the District Attorney's office, Department of Human Resources, Sheriff's Department, local law enforcement, and other agencies to investigate, prosecurte, and treat child abuse cases more effectively. The facility, Owens House, is named for the Honorable Robert E. Owens, Jr., Shelby County District Attorney and founder of the Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center. This is accomplished by: •providing a warm, non-threatening, multi-disciplinary team approach to the problems of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse. •providing a special place where abused children and their non-offending family members are served by caring professionals in forensic interviews, evaluations, and/or mental health therapy.
