Transition Program New Employee Preparation
The Employment Services program of United Ability offers job coaching, job placement, and job training for adults with disabilities. In recent years, the program has begun creating these connections and experiences with high school students in special education programs to prepare them for opportunities after graduation. Each summer, United Ability Employment Services partners with a community company to offer skill-building job placements for these students. In the interim period between the end of the school year and the beginning of their employment, all Transition Program participants must complete new hire paperwork and pass a Food Handler Card test.
Volunteers will pair one-on-one with students to watch the instructional video for their Food Handler Card and assist with administering the test (no prior knowledge of food handling or food safety required). Volunteers may also be utilized to help guide students and their parents through the completion of new hire paperwork.
