Garden Explorations Summer Camp Counselors for Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Counselors needed to assist in this week long summer camp

Garden Explorations is a free program developed by the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens for elementary children ages 6 – 12 enrolled in Birmingham’s Parks and Recreation Board Centers’ summer camps.  This program introduces the basics of gardening, incorporates components of outdoor education and emphasizes the Botanical Gardens as an education resource.  Garden Explorations implements a distinct curriculum with activities, games, and tours of the Alabama Woodlands, Crepe Myrtle Grove and Bruno Vegetable Garden.

This summer we will work with children from all parts of Birmingham.  They will learn about the creation of soil and its components, propagate plants and create their own container garden to care for this summer.  Through these interactive activities we hope to instill a lasting appreciation for the Botanical Gardens, gardening and what makes Nature so interesting and valuable to everyone, including our urban children.
